Carina Round Slow Motion Addict WME/ Interscope Records B+ Carina Round’s new album Slow Motion Addict gives hope to those of us who are tired of poppy girl singer’s with empty lyrics and pretty faces. Slow Motion Addict is Round’s third album and the follow up to her critically acclaimed The Disconnect. This album delivers many toe tapping tunes that are guided by Round’s sulpherous yet sweet voice.

Round was born and raised over the pond in Wolver Hampton UK where her love for singing began in childhood. Patti Smith is Round’s greatest influence for creating her flirty and distinctive sound. Slow Motion Addict kicks of with the song Stolen Car which is an ode to vulnerability and the lows we feel when we have lost control of life. One line of the song is “I didn’t mean to be looking for you but it’s cold in the alley and my life’s a mess.” Every one at one time or another can relate to Round’s lyrics in the sense that we all feel a little lost sometimes. Many of Rounds songs reflect her personal life, for example the song Take the Money might be about her struggles as a recording artist and the fine line between being true to her music and selling out. Slow Motion Addict has mostly up tempo sharp songs however Round break the album in half with Down Slow which is the first ballad type song on the record. With Down Slow the listener is lulled out of the fast pace beginning of the record. Round has toured with James Brown, Coldplay, and Ryan Adams which is a testament to her strength as an artist. Some of Rounds songs may seem tawdry however she has some serious depth in a lot of the songs on the record. I recommend Slow Motion Addict for anyone who has been searching for a distinct sound with an edge as sharp as a samurai sword.
