I am the Ocean …And your City Needs Swallowing Uprising Records 2007 A “I am the Ocean” is not your run of the mill metalcore band.
|
Instead they are a rehearsed, progressive, highly creative juggernaut walking the fine line between brutal crushing math-majesty and ambient, atmospheric melody with serenely sung vocal arrangements that at moments recall Chino Moreno and Gared O,Donnell from Planes Mistaken for Stars. What’s more is this is the debut for these gentlemen. Though there is not much to be found in the way of a background story for these gents on their Myspace page or their lack of a website; that discrepancy is made up for and forgotten in their layers and waves of pulsating sonic blasts of melody and pounding rhythms. Like many bands meandering in this genre it is easy to lose yourself in the whole amalgam of the record. This is not a bad thing if you enjoy being enveloped in the music you listen to becoming a part of the experience rather than just listening to it. So often in the saturated music industry do we have to bear carbon copy upon carbon copy of other great original bands. IATO takes an overdone formula and adds some fresh ingredients making it their own concoction. You will not be surprised by the sounds they make with their instruments, you may just enjoy it.
