Take The Ramones dark and twisted humor, mix it with some Sex Pistols attitude, add The Misfits sense of style, a dash of synthesizer and eerie chants, and you get The Horrors.
Remember the good old days when punk music was filled with enough emotion and attitude that it would make your grandmother cry? Well, these guys from London, England have brought it back, and are definitely a band to watch out for in 2007.
Strange House is guaranteed to become one of the best albums the “punky” genre has seen in recent memory. Every song on the record is worth listening to; however "Sheena" is a "Parasite" and "A Train Roars" are the album’s standout songs. "Sheena" is a quick (under 2 minutes), hard hitting song that immediately comes in with an interesting guitar riff, followed shortly after by the lyrical hook. The screaming vocals are visible on every song of the record, but most prominent during this chorus.
"A Train Roars" is one of the most creative songs on the album, every second having something new to intrigue the ear. Random pops and crunching guitars, intricately panned sound effects, and rewinding tapes all add to the mystery and mood of the song. In fact, the imaginative production of this entire album can only be compared to the experimentation that the Beatles possessed in their later works. Strange House is the type of hypnotic CD that will put you in a trance, make you listen to it over and over again, and after listening to it for the hundredth time, still love it.
