Shock Value
Blackground/Interscope Records
B-

While the lead off track "Give It To Me" (feat. Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake) is a bumping club track that has staked it's claim as the number one downloaded track on iTunes for the past week, the entire album Shock Value leaves this listener with mixed feelings.
Timbaland Shock Value CoverThe first few tracks including "Release" (featuring Justin Timberlake), "The Way I Are" (feat. Keri Hilson and D.O.E.) and of course "Bounce" (feat. Justin Timberlake, Dr. Dre and Missy Elliott) are great songs. My personal favorite is "Bounce" if not for any other reason than the lyrics in the chorus, "Bounce/Like Your Ass has the Hiccups/Bounce/Like were riding in my pick-up" not to mention the appearances of Dr. Dre and Missy Elliott are fantastic. The sexual nature and possible offensiveness of the song are its strong points and makes me want to pick up some previous Missy Elliott albums.

Unfortunately after that point there isn't much worth hanging on to. While you may feel further compelled to purchase this disc based upon the fact that the last two-thirds of the album has appearances from the likes of 50 Cent, The Hives, She Wants Revenge, Fall Out Boy and even Elton John, it really isn't worth it. However, while the release teeters off after track six, those first few songs make this album a keeper. I suggest you download the tracks you have to have and save the rest of your money for taking someone out to dinner.
