New York has given us another band to take a listen to, but this time the band is not from the tri-state area but rather the very far, very cold town of Buffalo. |
 Damiera are straight from the town that most folks wouldn't even bother traveling eight hours from NYC to get to. At least I wouldn't, until now.
Damiera must take their far away town seriously, because this debut disc contains some decent rock and roll tracks. The music is very good - sometimes even phenomenal. They aren't pop, they aren't even metal. They combine the two and join in the middle at a stage of rock that can't even be named. For now though, I will refer to them as Progressive - similar to their recent tour mates Moneen.
The shredding guitars are probably my favorite part of this record. The music makes me want to rock out, constantly. The musicianship on here proves that they know what they are doing and it's a good thing Equal Vision recognized that. Some top tracks are the title track "M(US)IC" and "Via Invested". For those that may enjoy some musical interludes every now and again, check out " Departures" which proves to show what a true guitar player can do with his/her instrument. The experimentation that you hear in each track is relived in concert which I was fortunate enough to witness.
The only downfall of this record that I feel is that some of the tracks blend together with the similar vocal style on each track, but luckily the music kept me interested.
Overall, I think this release is definitely a positive for Damiera and I'm sure their M(US)IC will get them to higher places soon enough.
